A Foodie’s Guide to February

With the start of February marking the end of the two week Dine Out Vancouver Festival frenzy, you may begin to wonder what comes next. Do you have to wait a whole year to enjoy a festival full of delicious food!? Thankfully the answer is no, as Vancouver always has an abundance of food and beverage events going on throughout the year! We’ve created this list of food-focused events happening in February to help you get over those post Dine Out blues.

FEB 1st-14th – Hot Chocolate Festival presented by City Food Magazine
With 25 different participants and an abundance of different flavours (59 to be exact), there’s sure to be a flavour you’ll fall in love with! Some of our friends are participating, including Mink Chocolate’s with a unique drink accompanied by a smoked oyster, Koko Monk who’s bringing back a 2015 favorite, and East Van Roasters with single plantation Peruvian coffee infused in single-origin Peruvian chocolate ganache (YUM!).

FEB 4th – Science of Cocktails
Learn about the science behind your favourite cocktails at this booze-filled event! Dress up and sample cocktails from some of Vancouver’s best bartenders, all while supporting Science World’s program to allow underserved children to visit Science World for free.

FEB 4th – Winter Foraging Workshop
Find out about the edible wonders in our local forests and by the sea during this workshop run by chef Robin Kort. You’ll learn about roots, mushrooms, seaweeds and more and how to identify them. A burdock root cooking lesson is also included.

FEB 5th – Big Night 2016
This is a not-to-miss evening full of outstanding food and wine! Vancouver Magazine brings together the best of the best as gold-medal winning chefs from their Restaurant Awards create dishes paired with winners of Van Mag’s 2016 International Wine Competition.

FEB 6-7th – BC’s First Truffle Festival
Love truffles as much as we do? BC’s first truffle festival offers a celebration of this wonderful mushroom through learning (yes, truffle hunting dogs will be present) and eating of course!

FEB 10th – Couples Cooking Class @ The Uncommon Cafe
Join this pre-Valentine’s day cooking class and learn to create a romantic 3 course meal! Demonstrated dishes include tarte flambee (crispy flatbread), aumoniere de saumon (phyllo wrapped salmon), and chocolate lava cake.

FEB 13th – CiderWISE
Cider-makers come together to show off their sometimes overlooked craft during this tasting event. You’re guaranteed to walk away with a new found appreciation for cider! Gluten free beer options are also available as well as gluten free bar snacks.

FEB 17th – Pizza Palooza presented by Tasting Plates YVR and Van Foodster
Buy a ticket and you’re set to taste some of Vancouver’s finest pizza. Travel to the pre-determined destinations on your own accord and enjoy the cheesey goodness. Vegetarian options are available.

FEB 19th – Chinese New Year @ o5 Tea Bar
If you’ve been to o5 before, you know their team is incredibly knowledgeable and loves to share their passion for tea with their customers. Join them to welcome the year of the Monkey with tapas and cocktails, and learn about the history of Chinese tea culture!

FEB 19th-22nd – Winterruption
This event on Granville Island features, art, music, theatre, dance, and food. It is a great way to halt the winter blues. There will be plenty of different events all weekend long for adults and children to enjoy!

FEB 20th-28th – Vancouver International Wine Festival
This 8 day long festival celebrates everything wine, including the food that goes with it! This year’s theme is Italy, putting Italian wines in the spotlight, however many wineries from all over the world are participating. With tastings, dinners, seminars, and more, there’s no shortage of events to attend. We suggest getting your tickets soon as some events have already sold out!
